Word of the Day

Thank you Jesus for all your blessings! Praise the Lord!
We give you all the glory! You are worthy to be praised!

Thank you for joining us today! If you are new to this blog, please take the time to post a comment on what you have read today and let us know what you think. We value your opinion. For those joining us who have followed us since the beginning, this blog is designed for Pastor Ed to give us the Word of the Day and share with us his teaching on the Word.

Hi everyone! How is everybody? I pray you are doing well.  Today, let's talk about the preeminence of Christ. To be preeminent means the quality of being superior, notable above all others, first, best place position, glory, honor and prestige. Romans 11:36 sums up the preeminence of Christ in three expressions. For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Of Him:
Of Him says everything which exists; things in heaven, things in earth, everything that was created, everything that has come into being, everything that will come into being, is created by and because of Christ.

Through Him:
Through Him says everything which lives, moves, breathes, operates, exists or functions in this universe, whether animate or inanimate, whether biological, chemical, spiritual, or natural does so through Christ, who upholds all these things, determines their place and keeps them in order.

To Him:
To Him says everything, no matter how far from God's thought it may be, no matter how chaotic things may appear, is being directed, summed up, and gathered together into Christ. As the Alpha, all things flow from Him, as the Omega, all things flow to Him.

Jesus is Lord over us individually, over the church corporately
and over all creation collectively.

To see the greatness of Christ, we must understand what Colossians 1:13-18 talks about when it refers to the preeminence of Christ.

Paul talks about at least seven reasons in this passage as to why Christ should have the preeminence among us. The things that Paul says are limited to Christ (no other could do these things). It's because of these reasons that Christ does have the preeminence among His people.

*Note the reasons*

  •  It is His kingdom (1:13)

The kingdom of Christ is the church. Christ came to this earth to establish His kingdom. It is that kingdom that we are a part of and it is in the kingdom of Christ that we find salvation.

  •  It is in Christ that we have redemption (1:14)

This redemption (forgiveness) can come only through His blood. It took the blood of Christ to buy our salvation.

  • Christ is the image of the invisible God (1:15a)

It's in Christ that we see God. No one has seen God at any time, but we did see Christ
The love of God was manifested toward us in Christ.

  • Christ is the firstborn over all creation. (1:15b)

The word "firstborn" in this passage doesn't mean that Christ was born before all creation. If this were the case, it would indicate that Christ was created and was not always with the Father. Therefore, it has to have a different meaning and both the Greek and English language allow for another meaning. To say that Christ is firstborn over all creation is to say that He is supremely above all creation. This idea is also seen in 1:17 when Paul says that Christ "is before all things". Also, it stands to reason that if Christ created all things (as Paul says immediately following this verse) then He's above all things.

  • It was by Christ that all things were created. (1:16-17)

Christ was the creator (1:16) This leaves no room for doubt that Christ created this world. Not only did He create all things, but it's by Him, all things are sustained. (1:17) It's Christ who sustains us in this world.

  • Christ is the head of the body (1:18)

To say that Christ is the head of the body is to say that He's the authority in the church. He became the head and authority of the church because he died for her. The things that are done in the church should be done only by His authority. This is also the reason that the church is named after Jesus.

  • Christ is the firstborn from the dead (1:18)
Jesus wasn't the first one raised from the dead. Jesus Himself raised at least three people. However, He was the first one to be raised from the dead that didn't die again. To be "the firstborn from the dead" means that Jesus didn't die again. When He rose from the dead, He ascended back to the Father without dying a second time.

Conclusion

In conclusion, let me sum up what we talked about above. By understanding the Lord's preeminence, we can build a stronger unity, a closer relationship with Him and a better awakening of His will for us. Continue to press in to Him to be in His secret place.

We like to close every Word of the Day by making sure you have the opportunity to ask Jesus in your heart.
So please pray,  Lord Jesus, I accept that you were born of a virgin, died on the cross and shed your blood for my sins to be forgiven and rose again to be Lord and King. I repent of my sins and ask that you come into my life and be Lord and Savior and live in my heart.
Amen
Friends, if you just prayed this prayer, you are born again, and may I pray that you grow in your walk with Jesus and develop an intimate relationship with Him. If you just said this prayer, please send us an email, we would love to know.

Thank you for joining us and please come back everyday for a new Word of the Day.

Sincerely,
Pastor Ed
